A new era for the auto industry as Omoda & Jaecoo take off globally

The Chinese brand is shaking up global markets with its bold identity and record-breaking growth

The automotive sector is undergoing historic change, and Omoda & Jaecoo are leading the charge. This disruptive Chinese brand has captured global attention, quickly positioning itself as a rising star in the industry.

What’s behind the name Omoda & Jaecoo?

The name Omoda is a fusion of “oxygen” and “modern,” reflecting the brand’s promise of fresh innovation in the automotive world. Jaecoo, on the other hand, blends two concepts:

  • Jae: Inspired by the German word “Jäger,” meaning “hunter,” it evokes strength, adventure, and resilience.
  • Coo: A nod to the English word “cool,” conveying style, trendiness, and a modern appeal.

Jaecoo is positioned as a premium SUV line aimed at mature drivers who value both refinement and functionality, including off-road capabilities. Omoda targets younger audiences with its bold styling and modern edge, while Jaecoo emphasizes rugged elegance and confidence.

A global success story

In under two years, Omoda & Jaecoo have gone from newcomers to record-breakers. The brand shattered sales records in Spain in its first year, sold over 1,000 units in its UK debut month with a 1.48% market share, and reached 28,556 units sold across Europe as of March 2025.

Since launch, total global sales have exceeded 490,000 units. The brand has entered 33 countries and regions, making it the fastest-growing automotive brand in the world.

Spotlight on Omoda 3: bold, electric, and ready for Europe

One of the most talked-about models is the Omoda 3, a B-segment SUV available in electric, hybrid, and gasoline versions. Its sporty design has drawn comparisons to the Lamborghini Urus. Built on the same platform as the Omoda 5, it’s expected to hit European roads by the end of the year, starting at just €20,000 for electric versions – a highly competitive price.

Also unveiled at the 25th Shanghai Auto Show was iCAUR, a brand born from Chery’s collaboration with SmartMi Tech, embracing an internet-centric philosophy aimed at younger consumers. Its first global model, the V23, boasts a rugged, squared-off design, dual motors delivering 155 kW/208 hp, high-capacity batteries, and a wide stance for agile handling. Founded in 2022 as Chery’s bold design sub-brand, Omoda brings modern styling, advanced tech, and a focus on electrified mobility. It made its global debut at the Shanghai Auto Show, and just two years later, it’s back in the spotlight as one of the industry’s most talked-about players.
