Hyundai Insteroid: the all-electric supercar born from gaming

An electric concept car inspired by the world of gaming. Hyundai presents the Insteroid, a 100% electric SUV that looks like it came straight out of a video game. This dream machine features gaming-inspired driver controls and seats. Behind the prototype is the Inster, Hyundai’s popular city SUV and a 2025 World Car of the Year finalist, including strong demand from Italy.

Where gaming and reality collide

Unveiled at the Seoul Mobility Show (April 3–13), the Hyundai Insteroid is designed to capture the imagination of a new generation of drivers. Developed secretly by Hyundai’s European design team, the goal was to break industry norms, spark creativity, and redefine what performance means in an electric vehicle.

Insteroid represents a modern take on the dream car. It’s designed to inspire and spark excitement,” said Eduardo Ramírez, Chief Designer at Hyundai Design Europe. “This project gave us the freedom to push creativity without limits, channeling gaming aesthetics to create a bold, emotional vision for the Hyundai brand.

Console-grade design, inside and out

The Insteroid’s aesthetics speak for themselves: ultra-wide stance, track-ready wheels, a massive rear wing, and aerodynamic details like a diffuser and vented wheel arches. The look is all about power and precision.

Inside, it feels more like a gaming cockpit than a car. Racing-style bucket seats, a roll cage, and a custom steering wheel turn driving into an immersive experience. Built on the user-friendly foundation of the Inster, this concept integrates Drift Mode to blend competition-level excitement with playful fun.

Lightweight lattice structures enhance performance and reduce overall weight. Meanwhile, the cabin’s sustainability credentials are strong, featuring 3D-knit fabric upholstery made from recycled yarns using a single-process manufacturing method.

A growing connection with gaming culture

The Insteroid marks Hyundai’s deepening ties with the gaming world. Following successful collaborations with platforms like Roblox, this initiative aims to connect with younger audiences through genuine, creative engagement.

Meanwhile, demand for the Hyundai Inster continues to grow worldwide, including in the United States and Europe, confirming the brand’s expanding influence across both the EV and gaming landscapes.
