Tesla expands its in-car artificial intelligence offering across Europe, integrating Grok into its vehicle lineup through over-the-air updates.

Grok inside Tesla vehicles expands AI into the cockpit
Artificial intelligence is becoming the next technological frontier inside vehicles. Elon Musk has confirmed that Grok, the AI conversational agent already available in the United States, will now be deployed in Tesla models sold in Europe.
Through over-the-air software updates, the standard method for upgrading connected vehicles, Grok will be integrated into Tesla Model 3, Model Y, Model S and Model X.
Artificial intelligence enters the driving experience
After AI reshaped smartphones and digital platforms, it is now entering the automotive sector, a market already valued at $17 billion globally.
According to Tesla, Grok will be accessible through the central touchscreen and via steering wheel controls. The system is designed as a conversational agent capable of producing fluid dialogue and handling complex responses. It can discuss topics ranging from physics and mathematics to biology and history, with access to real-time information.
Practical applications of Grok inside Tesla vehicles
At the driver’s request, Grok can interact with the navigation system, set destinations, search for points of interest and modify routes.
If dashboard warning lights activate, the AI can be consulted to interpret alerts and provide immediate assistance based on the vehicle manual. It can also suggest driving strategies aimed at reducing battery consumption and optimizing efficiency.
Personalities, subscriptions and questions of relevance
According to Musk, the AI integrated into Tesla vehicles will offer different personalities, including assistant, language tutor, therapist and storyteller modes, as well as options tailored for children. Users can also select different voice profiles, such as a female optimistic voice called Ara, a relaxed male voice named Sal or a calmer tone referred to as Rex.
These additional features will only be available through a Premium Connectivity subscription priced at €9.99 per month.
Privacy considerations and regulatory scrutiny
In the United States, California Attorney General Rob Bonta is investigating Grok after reports that the chatbot generated sexualized content involving adults and potentially minors.
Tesla maintains that, from a privacy standpoint, Grok does not pose a risk. Conversations are reportedly processed securely and anonymously, without being directly linked to the vehicle, the owner or the driver.
The introduction of Grok inside Tesla vehicles raises broader questions about the role of AI in everyday mobility, balancing technological innovation, practical utility and regulatory oversight.
