Why perovskite photovoltaics are the future?
It took 10 years of research and experimentation, but today TNO, the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research, is ready to bring the fruit of its commitment in next-generation photovoltaics to market. How? By launching Perovion Technologies, a spin-off created with the goal of initiating the first roll-to-roll production of printed perovskite photovoltaics. The first in Europe and globally. The research institute itself made the announcement, celebrating its long-standing scientific partnership with SolarNL and Solliance to secure a leading role in the thin-film segment.
The reason is simple and is the same that has fueled global research in this sector for the past 17 years. From the development of the first perovskite solar cell in 2009 to today, this technology has made giant strides, surpassing the progress of silicon in speed. Today, in terms of conversion efficiency, it competes effortlessly with classic semiconductors, in addition to boasting inexpensive and readily available raw materials.
