Milan, May 15, 2025 – Prysmian, in collaboration with GCCIA (the Gulf Cooperation Council Interconnection Authority), drives innovation and sustainability in power grids across the Middle East by successfully deploying E3X coated overhead conductor in the region.
This milestone marks a significant advancement in energy efficiency, reducing transmission losses and lowering carbon emissions in the Middle East.
The patented E3X coated conductor deployed in a section of the GCCIA Project 280/2022 – a 400 kV Overhead Transmission Line running from Al Zour in Kuwait to Al Fadhili in KSA – is designed to operate at a lower temperature while increasing transmission capacity by up to 20%, depending on weather conditions.
In addition to supplying this cutting-edge solution, Prysmian will incorporate advanced monitoring technology to assess the real-time performance of both coated and uncoated conductors. These insights will enable GCCIA to make data-driven decisions, optimizing the efficiency and reliability of future energy infrastructure projects.
Cinzia Farisè, EVP Power Grid, Prysmian, said: “Prysmian is at the forefront of transforming power grids, ensuring that power transmission and distribution operators worldwide have access to smarter, more efficient, reliable and sustainable solutions. This collaboration with GCCIA reflects our commitment to build a greener, more resilient future for energy in the Middle East”.
The E3X technology has a proven track record of delivering value to customers for nearly a decade, starting from the United States which has adopted and scaled-up this technology across the country. Now, with the integration of monitoring solutions, it marks a major leap in overhead transmission innovation, enabling utilities to confirm and optimize performance in real-time.
Sathish Kumar Ranganathan, VP of R&D Power Grid & Materials, Prysmian: “With the integration of real-time monitoring solutions, E3X technology is revolutionising overhead conductor innovation. This advancement and Prysmian’s one-stop-shop holistic approach reaffirm our leadership as a solutions provider in the Power Grid industry.”
This collaboration between Prysmian and GCCIA sets a new benchmark for energy-efficient transmission solutions in the Middle East, reinforcing both organizations dedication to sustainability and technological advancement.
